TOP 5 THINGS THAT I LEARNED ABOUT THE MONTESSORI METHOD

  1. There are entire schools that support my view of education needing to be a hands-on experience.
  2. Children and their thoughts are treated with respect in Montessori schools.
  3. Becoming a Montessori teacher requires entering an education program that is designed around the Montessori Method.
  4. The teacher is not the main focus of a classroom, like seen in public schools, but mingling amongst the various groups of children or with students working independently.
  5. The teacher guides the students to the knowledge they are seeking, rather than telling them the information.

THIS IS A MUST SEE VIDEO!!!!!!!

5/5 This video was extremely informative all on aspects, from visually seeing a classroom in action to educators explaining the ins and outs of the Montessori Method. I especially love the beginning statement made by Dr. Maria Montessori, the woman responsible for the Montessori Method. Her vision of education is one that I respect. In my opinion, that is what separates Montessori schools from all the others and that is respect. The schools respect their students and their ideas. Activities are geared toward independent learning, allowing students to fully appreciate their learning experience.

This is a short clip of quotes from Maria Montessori, the woman responsible for the Montessori Method. She was the first woman to graduate from Rome as a medical doctor. I especially like two of her quotes,

"This then is the 1st duty of an educator, to stir up life but leave it free to develop."

"The greatest sign of success for a teacher is to be able to say, "The children are now working as if I did not exist."

-Maria Montessori

5/5 This video is exactly what I was looking for; the thoughts of the parents and children attending a Montessori school. All the parents and kids praise the school and it makes me wonder if parents are more involved with their children's education at Montessori schools than at public schools. The parents in this video claim that their children's education has completely changed their kids, making them WANT to learn. Their children are even helping out more around the house and becoming more independent, able to care for themselves. I respect the fact that Montessori schools don't just focus on academics, they educate the child as a whole.

4/5 This video was great because it gave some background on Maria Montessori. Her first experience as an educator was with lower-class children, including orphans. Maria observed that by having mixed-aged classrooms the children began to care for themselves and each other.

This video is great because you get to here from the parents of Montessori educated children. There is also great testimonies from the children themselves, whom prefer Montessori education as opposed to public school. A key term used throughout my research is that the Montessori schools form a family. One thing I can not seem to find is the secrets to how Montessori schools produce successful self-motivated individuals. However, I did learned about an intensive summer-long program that teaches you how to use your classroom. They still use the same materials that Maria used over 100 years ago.

3/5 I scored this video lower because it is difficult to understand due to her accent, but what I do take from this video is that other cultures are using the Montessori Method. The children in this video resemble the students of Montessori schools in the U.S. They are all busy. It just proves that with the right environment, children can blossom.

5/5 This video is of a past Montessori and IB students. He is extremely well spoken and his part of the video is just amazing! He thanks the school for giving him the opportunity to be himself. (He speaks about his education for the first 4 minutes.) The rest of the video is of brief interviews of other children in Montessori schools, including high school level. It is great to hear from these students how much they have appreciated their education.

4/5 This video is about John Long and his time working in a Montessori school. He has worked many different places but reflects back on his Montessori career as being the most rewarding environment.
